Nainital is one of the largest Districts in the state of Uttarakhand. It is famous for the pleasant lake and weather. It is popularly known as the Lake District of India. It is said that the left eye (Nain) of Devi Sati fell here when Lord Shiva was carrying her corpse in grief and that’s why it is believed that the shape of the lake is formed in the emerald eye shape. Most famous Naina Devi temple is located at the northern end of the lake. Thus name of Nainital is derived from Naina mandir and the taal (lake).
